I agree with you. Very surprising, but looking back I guess some could see the signs of this coming. Not me though, this caught me way off guard. I think overall, this is a good thing, and sounds like EA is making a proactive move to help insure the success of WAR. Some think WAR is a totally flawed, dead game, but I'm definitely not in that camp. With LOTD coming out, I was having a blast in there yesterday. The most fun i've had in the game so far actually. Adding RvR to it will be even better.

That, plus this news, makes me feel hopeful that bigger and better things are on the horizon for WAR.

Fired? No...

I doubt he was "fired" in the classic sense, but he may have been forced out. Don't you think the timing of this is a little suspect? Mythic literally released Land of the Dead yesterday, and EA makes this announcement today. It's pretty obvious that this has been in the cards for at least a couple of months (the last we heard from Mark was his State of the Game on 03/11/2009). Perhaps they told Mark about the reshuffling a couple of months ago and he didn't want to do what they wanted him to, so they agreed to accept his resignation once Land of the Dead released.

None of this Executive stuff "just happens", because once you start dealing with CEOs and COOs you have to be really careful from a legal standpoint. No company wants to deal with a wrongful dismissal suit, which is why they give executives Golden Parachutes.

I truly want this to be good news, hopefully those more talented Devs will come over and solve the problems that War have. Especially the bugs, quest, and revamp the world....

Let the servers be down for patching, say every wed?

/fingers cross....

It's remarkable that you think this is good news for Warhammer Online.

I'm pretty sure the talent will be moving in the other direction.

Yeah, seriously. WAR just lost its biggest advocate within EA. That isn't good news.

For clarity:

Mythic is not "merging" with Bioware.

Mythic and Bioware remain independent EA studios within a larger MMO/RPG group.

Thanks!

For the time being. Then EA will take a look at the organization, eliminate redundancies, consolidate resources, etc. etc...

Thanks for that, but what exactly will Bioware be bringing to WAR? What changes can we expect from all this?

All of that remains to be seen, however we're excited about the opportunities that will be available to both studios as a result of this.

Honestly, even though we haven't heard from Mark Jacobs in a long time, this is still a huge shock. He has been apart of Mythic for such a long time and I really didn't think he would ever not be apart of the Mythic community. I definitely think there is more to this than any of us will ever know. Good luck Mark, where ever you end up.

Stop being so negative, even if the subs number reach about 100K, it will still be a viable game (so far think that DAoC never reached it !) : merge more server, make them work properly, balance and you'll see. WAR is a great licence and a lot of us also play cause they like the lore ! Even if it's not a record breaking blockbuster, and i guess it never will be, it's a good game, and it surely could be a great one if devs work hard on it. Let's wait and see what EA/Bioware will say : people are playing this game (not as much as they thought, but still), and the Korean launch is tommorow, so stop saying it's dying, cause it's not suc**rs !! (And go troll elsewhere btw)
