just a thought this might be an truly ingenious idea that they are doing.

So most likely this is going to bring a good amount of people to the game. Now lets just say that they don't sub. How do you get all these new players to sub? Add new races or new content that is only available to people who sub.

The game has already had a major performance increase and we have seen some people coming back. With some more bug fixes and new content this game could actually grow.

Lets clear something up really quick. They ALREADY HAVE a 10 day free trial for people who want to try the game but don't want to buy yet. They are just extending the 10 day trial to free to play for as long as you want.

So how exactly would this new model attract so many more players to the game than the current 10 day trial model?

DDO had a 10 day trial also. The new F2P DDO is nothing more then an extended trial and look at what a huge hit it has become.

I swear if Mythic announced they were going to send you a choice of free cake or pie the community on this forum would moan that there's no option for cheesecake and that in reality the pie is the source of all the problems Mythic have ever faced.
QFFT!!!

I think this is a good move on Mythic part. For people whining like babies about twinking consider that you really cannot twink anyone too much due to level restrictions on gear and also consider that YOUR side will have it's own so called "twinks". Good move Mythic, keep it up.

WAR is a pay to play and DDO is a free to play. Lets not try to mix payment models and cross-define success here.

Hang on. Your statement here is pretty accurate.

Pros:

-People will play the their they want to. Yay!
-Tier one will be booming.

Cons:

-The motivation for new players to subscribe is gone with all the negativity that plagues any tier but Tier 1. Why do I want to pay to get out of here again?
-The motivation for existing players to keep paying (when Tier 1 is more fun (in many, many, many eyes)) is gone. Why am I paying when I can do what I love for free?

I'm all for giving people what they want, but if you're going to kick the stepstool out from under your income stream, you better have a safetynet in place. I've yet to see such a net.

I can understand your point BUT...how will it make new players want to play more and pay when they go into a scenario and see these powerful players just rolling over folks left n right?

If I came into a game with no knowledge and went into T1 and went up against a lvl 11 player with the best possible gear and Talis it would be a horrid first impression. I don't care if it was my own team or not..seeing someone just being able to steam roll over would be like...Hmm ok something is wrong here this is not balanced.

But I am all for this as now I don't have to pay Mythic anymore after this goes into effect. I can just stock up on tali's now(if they change it, I still don't lose much) and get to play T1 for free. No longer do I have to worry about what mythic does, what patches they put in or anything cause its now free. If twinks get to bad and its just twinks vs twinks, so what its free for me and I know I will never have to pay for the game.

What will make/break this idea is purely how they handle twinks. If they do a poor job then that alone will kill off more new players then anything else. Sure those that have played the game will be ok with it cause they know and can get said items and such but for a new player that don't know much, chances are they will be turned of by the game very very fast.

Apparently not. I don't plan to unsubscribe and neither does anyone I know. I guess we like the game as whole rather than a slice of the, there is again, pie.

I think that tier 1 is a fun part of the overall experience, I do not think it stands on its own as a sole contender.

hold on there champ. DDO is still a subscription MMO. The f2p part of it is huge but it is not the entire game. It is really just a glorified trial with the option to purchase elements of the subscription. Since the new model it has gained a huge amount of new subscribers. Last I heard it had almost doubled the amount of subscribers.

DDO made the client into free download. It wasnt before and ppl payed for it + the sub. My bet is that WAR will do the same - very soon. Sooner than many of us think.

PPL are already downloading the client to play endless trials... And do Mythic really think they will get ppl paying huge amount of money for client + sub for what the higher tiers offer? To ppl that already bought the game in the first place (like many of those that will be twinking t1)

If the 10 day free trial didn't bring in enough paying subscribers, what makes you think that an endless trial will?

The 10 day trial is a brilliant idea imo. It's bound to have two really good effects on the game:

1. Populates Tier 1 which is arguably one of the most enjoyable RvR areas in the game - it's just a shame the Elf and Dwarf lakes are never used as they are really nice too.

2. Inevitably those people who enjoy playing the trial will either want to re-activate to level higher, or will get a new account.

The more customers the better. I just wish they could further condense the server populations. I feel a little bit jaded when I compare tier 1 population of my server Volkmar, and somewhere like Gorfang. Gorfang is ten times more populated in tier 1 due to recieving the XP bonus - Volk doesnt have it, and it shows.
