Assigning function to mouse buttons, help please

So, what I wanna do is:

make mouse button 4 = shift
and
make mouse button 5 = ctrl

Can someone explain to me how to do this?

(In very simple language please, no BIOS msconfig <slash//..*.* stuff please)
