Game crashing at zoning since Windows 7 - anybody else?

Installed Windows 7 yesterday and having problems when zoning, not at each zoning but frequently enough the game just dies down on me. No blue screen of death, just utter blackness and I have to reboot the computer again.

Anybody else come across this?

specs: Intel Quad 6600, 4 Gig Ram, Windows 7 - 64, ATI 4780

Complete shot in the dark here since something like this happened to me recently, but not in any way WAR related. Might be your graphic drivers playing up with Win7, also does your monitor turn off or go into standby when this happens (since with my issue id click on SaveAs in a particular app and a second latter the screen would go black and my LCD monitor would shutoff, but I could shutdown using win key/up/return/right/enter)...

Also you've got an ATI vid card so turn on GPU recovery in the catalyst control center and have the CCC active and see if its a graphical issue. Since if it is a graphical issue the recovery option will restart any GPU lockups and return you back to the game or desktop.

Might not help at all but it'll give you an indication of sorts as to the problem (ie if its a GPU issue).

Other than that no idea.

Thanks I'll give this a try.

As to monitor switch-off: none of this, monitor just stays dark, but HD activity dies right down, so the only chance is a forced re-boot.

Guess I should look at the graphics drivers again.

Not a driver issue it seems, even with the newest set of catalyst drivers same happens. Just a bit of additional information, I noticed that before locking up the screen that you get whilst zoning is becoming pixellated, the mouse freezes, then screen just goes dark (not switching off or so), HD activity dies right down, but the ingame music is still running for another 5 seconds or so, then stutters.

No Alt-Tabbing or Ctrl-Alt-DEl possible, only way out is forced reboot

PS.: can't even get my main character into the game now, crashes straight away at map loading screen. Happens on other characters and other server as well, just very rarely
I have all addons deleted as well

I have a similar problem, but on XP.

I think it's to do with lack of system (or probably graphics card) resources after a while, it's possible that moving to Win7 has caused a similar issue with your set up.

Seems to be sorted now, got an e-mail by Customer Support, advising me to delete Cache, User and Interface folder and do full filecheck. Just to let others know if they might have the same problem.

That might fix the problem, for a while. You do know this game is bugged?

Sorry, laughed too early, you were right Ice, the whole bloody problems is back with a vengeance.

Goa asked me to supply a tracert and dxdiag and want to investigate, just hope they're coming up with something.

Well, starting to get annoying now, as in - really annoying. Sent the dixdiag and tracert files together with a detailed description almost 2 weeks ago now - no further response from CS. Sent them a reminder two days ago ...same.

Does anybody know who to phone etc. to speak to a human being over at GOA or whoever does the tech support?

Check the event-monitor of windows7. Maybe you find a clue about the cause (i.e. error in war.exe etc).

But as you wrote
Quote:

it could also be your video-card.

This is not Win7 related. I am playing WAR + Win 7 on a worse rig but having no problems at all. How much memory does WAR process consume? Have you tried downgrading graphics? Are you running in Windowed mode or Full Screen?

It's not video card related for a start, also running on the newest ATI drivers

The whole thing only occurred since I upgraded from Vista 64 to Windows 7 - 64 two and a half weeks ago, so perhaps Windows 7, perhaps the 64 bit, perhaps DX11... I don't know, but GOA / Mythic should.

The fact that it always crashes when going into scenarios and sometimes when zoning and that I get it to run again after deleting the USER and Cache folders tells me its a bug with the game. I also find it strange the the whole computer just dies down, as in black screen of death, may this indicate some sort of a memory leak??

Anyway, what is annoying that GOA just seem to seize communication and that there doesn't seem to exist any contact numbers to speak with them directly, or even to contact the line management of Customer Service to see whats going on.

I am by no means a PC expert, however I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night..that being said, are you running the WAR Patch.exe in Admin Mode? Anytime that something accesses your HD with Win 7 (much like in Vista) it goes through a UAC check.

It is entirely possible that by attempting to load a new zone (i.e. accessing different game files on your HD) that it is encountering a UAC issue that is causing the crash. Make sure that you right click and "Run as Admin".

I have forwarded your system specs along to our internal engineers for them to look into it.
