How do I activate my retail key with my unlimited free trial account?

When I try and activate my game retail code it asks me to create a game account which I will use to log into the game. I already have one from the Unlimited Free Trial and I'm logged into the account management system using the Trial account. Entering the information for my Trial account tells me the account name is already in use.

How do i activate the account I created for the Trial with my new retail key? Why am I being asked to create an account when I'm already logged into my account?

• I've purchased a retail game from Steam.
• I've purchased a monthly subscription.
• The monthly subscription information is visible from the Account Management page.

When you use the Activate a Key feature, it should ask you which account you want to apply the key to.
