I just find it hard to believe that a company needs three months advance notice to prepare for a game.

It's more likely that they have scheduled deadlines to meet for being briefed on expected street dates or such, and if a deadline was not met, they simply pushed the date back on their own, even if Mythic did not inform them of any changes in the schedule itself, just missed a deadline to annouce, "Hey all is well, projected Q2 is still solid."
Look at it this way most times they push back the date if anything to get preorders this would be like shooting there selfs in the foot to put off the date and maybe lose some pre-orders, it makes no sense for them to do this think about it.

Not only that but how do we know they even announce all the specific phases of testing they do anyways? They certainly have not released a ton of other material in a general sense, even when they have made some available here and there.

All this speculation just makes me a sad panda more than anything. I do not want the game to be released before it is ready either, but I find it is easier for people to believe the worst of something, than to believe in it. It's always "delayed again, as expected, delayed delayed delayed", why can't it ever be "moving right along on schedule just as we expected" as the devs and reps have said most recently. This is why I still believe in the Q2 release.

I think both sides have validity.

I think the idea is that, from the general trend, if a game doesn't have a release ready on a set date say 3 months in advance, then it gets pushed back 3 months for the tentative release. This doesn't necessarily mean the game is delayed, but there is a higher chance of it being delayed.

On the other hand, they might not know what they're talking about. Remember MMORPGs are few and far between when they get distributed. Only about 5% of games on shelves are MMORPGs, why does that matter? The timelines differ a lot because of different developing styles. MMORPGs are persistent and constantly update, while other genres are not and generally and "absolutely ready for launch" when they are released, giving a larger window before tentative release, leading to a larger window before distributors push back the tentative release date, hence the pushback.

This is all just theory though, so I'd say just ignore it. But human nature can't ignore it because we're sitting here on a forum talking about it, of course we're going to take any news and talk about it because it's all we have. Besides idiots posting stupid suggestions like, an instant level to 40 and cross server backgrounds and make the superman class and make the game a puzzle racing game and...

Usually in big release date threads a dev will come in and quel the conversation with "It is still slated for Q2, and it will be done when its done" but not in this thread. Maybe Garthik has a point where they don't want to mislead if they know a release date push back is upcoming.

That said I have full confidence the devs are making the best decisions for the game We all just wish it didn't need to be delayed to achieve the games promise. I think Q2 is easily reachable with the information they have given us, but who knows? (not gamestop)

Agreed, in the end all any of us can do is wait, either for a Mythic announced release date, or for a BETA invite, where maybe we get a better look at the product, and get to enjoy it firsthand!

Man, can't walk into any forum without running into conspiracy theories or doom topics. I don't anticipate a delay, but wouldn't be too surprised if one came out. Additionally, regardless of when they launch they're going to have to deal with competition from other games in one way or another, if the game can stand on its own merits it should do well.

Indeed, the fact that it happened is enough for us borderline superstitious folks to go, "oooOoOoOOOoooh imma ascardid! " Heck, it scares me just as much as the next guy to see weird stuff happen for unexplained reasons that we may never know til an actual release date is announced through Mythic. But I'd like to err on the side of caution and believe that they are moving along as scheduled as they have said again and again in the recent weeks.

But on another note, the puzzle racing game content... I swear, funny stuff I'm waiting for the "Why can't WAR have fluffy puppie mounts with pink frocks and diamond studded collars, and a bedazzler profession so I can sparkly all my outfits?!"

If warhammer online is going to push back again, if being the key word, I'm just going to play AOC. No need to play a game thats not coming out.

You are certainly entitled to do as you wish your comment just struck me as odd. If war is pushed back I'm going to go play a game that gave a release date then pushed back less than 14 days later.

I know, it really surprises me so greatly when people constantly harp on how WAR has no competition and release date has absolutely and unequivocably nothing to do with any perceived competition. I mean do they even listen to the developers?

I refer those people to what MBJ said recently:

If it does get pushed back thats just more time for me to devote to mastering Team Fortress 2, Savage 2, or whatever else I might pick up between then to fill my gameing time. No biggie.

Folks,

Different day, same song. Here's an abbreviated (especially for me) official response:

No, new date has been locked in, announced, etc., etc., etc.

Yes, this could change at any point because of quality, design issues, etc., etc., etc.

Beta is going well and there are things that were right on track, could have gone better, exceeded our expectations, etc., etc., etc.

The next phase of beta is starting today and we'll have even more data to see where we are, etc., etc., etc.

I've said repeatedly that our, or any MMORPG's, release date, is really set in mud, not stone, due to the complexity of these games, balance issues, etc., etc., etc. so worrying about them or getting worked up over them is a complete waste of time and energy.

We're going to do what we need to do to make a great game, etc., etc., etc.

Mark

P.S. If we do set a new release date (even in mud), I'll come here and explain why we did it just as I did the last time.
