Some time later the Cookies have been processed and baked and the NDA is lifted.

And on that same forum when the time is right, the NDA is lifted and the World rejoices at the awesomeness of the FINISHED cookie. Whilst the Cookie Developers sit back and smile. "Phew glad we didnt lift the NDA when it was just Beans and Flour, damn we would have bombed".
My counterargument: while Paul and friends are busy whipping up a batch of cookies, the guys at Funcom have gone and opened up an eclair shop. Since the only sweets on the market until recently have been the crappy stale cinnamon buns that Blizzard's been selling, a lot of people think to themselves: "Hey, an eclair sure does look good right about now."

Now a lot of these same people had been looking forward to the opening of the Mythic Cookie Shop, but said opening has been pushed back several times over. Now some people think: "I really could use an eclair, but I'm a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies, they're worth the wait!" However, a very large group of people will simply go buy some eclairs, since they're not too picky about the kinds of sweets they eat, and the eclairs are really good.

When the cookie shop finally opens, everyone's filled up on eclairs...a lot of them might even want a cookie, but it's just a matter of being too full. The Mythic Cookie shop can't support itself soley by catering to the chocolate chip cookie diehards, and begins a slow decline, eventually closing. Paul becomes a hobo and is reduced to begging for coppers in the street.

I agree with the above posters that say an early NDA lift would be much more detrimental than keeping it on for a while. Also, people aren't going to like AoC any less even if WAR were to lift the NDA early and it got wonderful reviews.
I hate to say this, but if the WAR community manages to attract the dregs of the internet as WoW has done, the game's doomed, no matter the quality of the gameplay. Let's hope a good community example and decent enforcing of the rules by Mythic can keep this sort of behavior at bay. As for WAR vs AoC, while I agree that if AoC is good people won't like it any more or less no matter when WAR releases, if there's a lot more information on WAR out when AoC hits the shelves (even an open beta perhaps), then a lot of people will think twice, and weigh the advantages of each particular game before making their choice. As is, WAR is just a lot of press releases...to stave off the competition, I think something more tangible would be needed.

Any possibilities that this post is a troll attempt?

Indeed. I would think someone in this scenario might attempt to hang around at lest one of these forums to discuss what their options might be instead of copy/paste x3 and then vanishing.

Also, as a point to anyone who has recieved an invite recently, if you read Jacob's Beta FAQ on the WARHerald you'll see that they're in a phase of Beta where they're not inviting new people.

So I'd give it a couple weeks, to maybe a month, before they invite any new people.

Make that 4x copy/paste:

The Hammer Version

Now maybe this guy was so upset with their predicament that they felt the need to spam all the WAR forums they could find with the exact same post (and sincerely, I am sorry if this is a true tale).... or perhaps it is time to get some Occam's Razor up in this B.

Ya think? Let's look at some of the usual clues:

1) Account recently created - April 2008 - Check

2) First post is a slam against the company/person - Check

3) Possibly lying/exaggerating in post - Saying that we don't tell people that there is no guarantee that they will get into beta - Well, it says it right on the darn card that we give out that there is no guarantee. How do I know that? I reviewed the cards before they went out as I expect stuff like this. Our people at the show, especially Robert, are very clear about this. - Check

4) Possibly lying/exaggerating in post - That computer seems to me to be a bit older than 6 months - Check

5) Post contains the "I'm doing this for the community to expose the non-caring Mythic so the community knows the truth!!!" - Double Check for adding the "To All Warhammer Online Fans".

6) Poster is spamming forums - Check
Your mileage may vary, decide for yourselves. I'm all for giving the guy a cookie because:

Trolls like cookies.

History tends to repeat itself. One of my favorite parts of it is how some people are then shocked when it does.

As I said two years ago here, as we get closer to launch and other games get closer to their launch the troll quotient will go up.

The plot thickens!!!

Looksey who has an AOC account. No really... LOOK!

Their new sig should read:

Lie as if you were invited to Beta.
Troll as if you weren't able to play.

Oath,

Man, you just scored big with that find. Shocking find eh?

Back when we were developing DAoC, it was a well known fact that a certain other developer gave their fans rewards for going onto the forums of DAoC to dump on our game as well as other games in development. I do not think that the Funcom guys would do that but that sort of behavior still happens unfortunately. I have no idea why people feel the need to do that kind of nonsense.

Mark

P.S. Thanks again Oath, I loved the fact that guy's post on the AoC forums was a prayer to be let into their beta.

I love cookies. If Mythic is able to use the release delay to give me some ice cream with those cookies, I'll be happier than with just the cookies alone.

Ice Cream w/Cookies > Eclair

Mbj, if you're not too busy, could you take a small gander at the 12+ page post of Open RvR madness and confirm Mythic listened to feedback when you initially made the announcement? That would be super.

Hey Oath...go over to one of the AoC forums and tell them Gaute Godager literally took a crap on you when you asked him about AoC's play mechanics.

Vilehakk,

I'm not sure I know what you mean? I checked that thread and I've been clear multiple times on the whole multi-rule servers question, the head start program and the fact that we haven't made any decision yet on some of the points raised. Which specific question do you think I haven't addressed?

According to a recent study, you are safe so long as you just "like" cookies.
