What the hell are you talking?
Do you really thing that the gyro jetpacks look alike the normal gyrocopters? They look completely different and works different except some for some parts.

Silly.

What makes a gyrocopter work? A motor, rotar blades, and the controls.

Sounds pretty similar to me, heck its even less of a flyer than they gyrocopter so they should be even more inclined to use it! Since apparently their feet dangling a little bit off the ground would crush their pride... Not.

There's already a thread discussing this:

Merging this thread with that one.

Snorri stated clearly why it's different.

I think the personal Gyro is a great idea! I realize many dwarf traditionalists don't like the idea and think it should be reserved for the most crazy of engineers but in WAR we dwarfs will need to embrace all the advantages we are offered to win battles against our hated enemies! The dwarfs who refuse to use a mount are going to be letting their kin down by arriving at battles late! Dwarfs as a race are going to have to embrace change or get swept aside! Airborne Ironbreakers who can arrive to the front line quickly would be an invaluable asset to the dwarf forces as they could hold the line while the rest of the dwarf forces get mobilized for battle!

28 pages..time for some AD commentary...

Wow. That took a while to read. So I wanted to give you all some background information for the dwarf mount, if for no other reason than to confirm what has been said about a hundred different ways by various posts. Let me dive in here.

There were some basic ground rules when we designed the dwarf mount. Without going into agonizing details, these rules are a product of both the IP and gameplay requirements.

So firstly, dwarfs need a form of fast transportation to have game play functionality parity. There isn't really any argument there. Having them just run faster isn't enough.

Number two, organic is out. Sorry. We did this exercise twice for the dwarf mount and I somehow still have a job for suggesting things like, ponies, bears, etc. Yup. We went there. The concept guys drew dozens of radically different ideas from mechs, to maiden-borne shields, to pit ponies, to pogo-sticks, to getting drunk and just passing out and appearing somewhere else. So yea. The rocket-launching bunnies and such are, what I shall call “residual insanity”.

Why no organics? Well it breaks lore as you say. No need to go into the details there. Arguing what is the greater breach of lore, organics or the gyro harness is a fun debate, but has no clear answer. I can say GW firmly opposed organics so we explored other visual answers.

Number 3. The beer tractor just sucked. I admit it. We gave it a shot. It had some cool details, but as soon as someone told me it looked like a tractor and a wheelchair it was ruined for me. So we went back to the Wacom tablets.

Number 4. I think you all understand how terribly impossible this is, making a dwarf mount. Its like making a High Elf Hammer, or using a halfling for any purpose other than giant-food. Ok. I am exaggerating a bit, but the point is that no solution will completely fit PRE-EXISTING GW lore for dwarfs. That leads me to 5.

Number 5. The Age of Reckoning, while holding dear to the lore and celebrating it in all its glory, has needed to expand it in some ways. In a few places, the needs of the lore-hungry MMO has forced our hand to _tweak_ lore. GW and Mythic are very proud of what we have created. GW has given us great support. They have understood from the very beginning that things like the dwarf mount will come up and need answers. When this happens we confer with them as Warhammer is their baby of which we are caretakers on this journey called WAR.

Number 6. Since its gotta be mechanical, at least lets leverage some existing ideas. That is where the gyro harness came from. Its a variant of the idea of the gyrocopter. They share some similarities. It should look like they could come out of the same workshops. The harness also gets around some issues we typically have with mounts, like pivoting, BTW. The harness is on the cutting, borderline explosive edge of dwarf technology.

In summation, we needed a mechanical mount. Yes, most dwarfs are old-fashioned and disdain all this newfangled tech. However, for all the reasons above, we made this compromise. Hopefully, even with all of these considerations, we have erred on the side of making something that looks cool.

Many of you have stated you like the harness and to you I hoist a pint of Bugman’s. Thank you! For everyone else, know that we explored countless options and may Grungni forgive us for what we have wrought.

I think this pretty much settles it. GW said no organic, and EA-Mythic did their best. And since GW is the source of Lore and continuity, I really don't see how any further arguement can be made.

Gyro-pack ftw.

Wow, I'm amazed they addressed our concerns in this thread. This kind of dedication almost makes me forget about the mount. While I still think the concept art needs some work to make it look less comical, I think I can cope seeing as how they seem to be stressing about it quite a bit. Thank you Mythic for being Mythic.
