A concern about the Oceanic server location

I'm not too concerned about where it is going to be hosted actually. I'm more concerned about update schedules, patching schedules etc... I don't want to be playing an oceanic/SEA server that is 5 patches behind the US/Euro servers.

..and I sincerely HOPE they don't disallow oceanic/SEA players from openinig accounts with the US/Euro servers. Many of us have friends and family playing from 1/2 way across the world. It's completely counter-intuitive to lock an MMORPG game by region (HG:L anyone?). Completely pointless except to try and juice the most money from players, AND IT'S OBVIOUS!

.. not to mention support would be broken up and we'd most likely get inconsistent service.

BTW They'll most likely place the servers in Australia OR Singapore. Singapore has a fantastic and possibly the best infrastructure in the region.

Thanks for the praise, but no we don't, lol. Our ISPs are still in discussion about how and when to install a fiber optic infrastructure. Yes, we have good intra country nodes, but there will be a bad bottleneck within the country itself. Oz has a better internet infrastructure then we do, so from a technical stand point Oz will make a lot more sense.

Also, for like the 10th time, Oz server players will also have access to US servers and vice versa as stated by the below answer from the MAIN www.warhammeronline.com website.

Will Oceanic players be able to play on North American servers?

Absolutely, players from both North America and the Oceanic region will play using the same client giving them access to both North American and Oceanic servers. In addition servers will be listed with regional tags and able to be sorted by ping rate allowing players to select the best server for them quickly and easily.

Frankly, that very same message is the cause of this conundrum in the first place XD

Yes, we all know that the official website says that it is located on mainland Australia. But this very article where this information is from also links to TWO articles which contradict not only each other, but this "official" information as well.

Some might think "hey it's the official web, it has more credit than the others", however, i personally disagree for this scenario, especially since the aforementioned game site articles were linked to DIRECTLY from this official article.

Also, i highly doubt that the oceanic servers would be behind the US/EURO servers in terms of patches. I don't think Mythic would make that fatal mistake :P

So yea, thing here is that i would like a confirmation from ANOTHER concrete source to prove any one of these 3 "location sources" true. And yes, i know that i am worrying needlessly about trivial things :P But you know, it's kinda like a withdrawal symptom from lack of WAR information...

I'm starting to lean towards the information stated by the "official" post on the warhammer online website instead of the other two sources, mainly because the two sources interviewed the same person, and that same person stated two different locations, which brings up the question of "does he really know what hes talking about?"

A server in Singapore would've been better for SEA region, WAR with 200+ lantency gonna suck for the SEAsians...especially it being a "pvp" game mostly

I highly doubt it to, since the AU/US servers will be linked by the same login server share the same accounts website, etc etc.

A dedicated server JUST for the SEA region would not make sense. The gaming population here is abysmal, and would just mean losses for the company. However, a server for the entire OCEANIC region would mean something else entirely.

Apparently a server located in Sydney would provide about 100-150ms ping, which is still playable, although you would obviously not be able to play as well as you would like.

However, a server located in Melbourne would average around 250ms ping, which is not that far off compared with WoW. 250 ping still kinda gimps you should you play melee.

Information taken from www.speedtest.net, and the above data is for someone located in Singapore.

So yea, with such a huge difference between the two cities, one would be very interested to know exactly where the Oceanic server would be located in.

Also, i might be wrong on this, but I've heard frequently that the cost of hosting a server in Australia is rather exorbitant. Hence why i feel that the "Server WILL be hosted in Australia" claims can be disputed. I mean, if you can host a server somewhere in say....Indonesia (( Just an example, probability of this coming true is close to zero)) for 1/3 of the cost of hosting it in Aus, it might start a debate in Mythic.

Kevin rudd is planing to upgrade all the systems drastically might take a few years but should be sweet when we are on par with other countries

I even play on New Zealand servers from Sydney and the ping is still very low. Melbourne-based would be fine, it it's in Sydney I could be as low as 10ms at times . I literally have no idea how MMO gameplay looks like with a sub-100 ping, it shall be glorious.
