Talisman Crafting/Leveling Guide

Small Talisman Crafting Guide

Rarity of item:

Fragment - This is the most important piece when crafting talismans. This is the determining factor on what the rarity of your talisman with be.

Using a level 1 rare fragment will be the same as using a level 75 in the sense that they will both have the same chance to be a rare talisman on creation. The level effects what your bonus stats will end up as.

Rarity of fragments/talismans effects the length of time that the talisman will last when socketed into gear. (The time length is measure by actual game time played).

White = 8h (8 hours)
Uncommon = 2d (2 days)
Rare = 5d (5 days)
Very Rare = (Unlimited)
Mythic(?) = (?)

It also effects what range of +stats you will end up with.

White starts at ~ +2
Uncommon starts at ~ +5
Rare starts at ~ +8
Very rare starts at ~ +11
Mythic(?) starts at ~ (?)

(Stats will go up or down depending on what level materials you use)

Ex. Using an uncommon fragment will create an uncommon talisman. Using a rare fragment will create a rare talisman. (There may be a small chance that a gem will be a higher rarity on creation, but I'm not sure yet).

Gold Essence - (Unsure of how rarity of this item effects the outcome of the talisman. I'm guessing it increases the stability guaranteeing that a rare fragment will create a rare talisman. It might also increase the chance that an uncommon fragment could turn into a rare talisman, a rare fragment could turn into a very rare talisman, etc.)

Curio - (Unsure of how rarity of this item effects the outcome of the talisman. I'm guessing it increases the stability guaranteeing that a rare fragment will create a rare talisman. It might also increase the chance that an uncommon fragment could turn into a rare talisman, a rare fragment could turn into a very rare talisman, etc.)

Magical Essence - (Unsure of how rarity of this item effects the outcome of the talisman. I'm guessing it increases the stability guaranteeing that a rare fragment will create a rare talisman. It might also increase the chance that an uncommon fragment could turn into a rare talisman, a rare fragment could turn into a very rare talisman, etc.)

Req. Talisman Level of Items:

Fragment, Gold Essence, Curio, Magical Essence - The level Req. for these items comes in intervals of 25.

1,25,50,75,100,etc...

The higher level items you use the more powerful the talisman will be(+stat wise).

This is indicated by the bar on the right hand screen of the talisman making window. As you insert higher level items the bar will raise more and more. It does not raise by rarity.
(This may be a set number meaning if you reach certain percentages of the bar you may get an increase in a set number of stats)
(This could be added up and tested with an organized chart)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ex. (In this example level 1 req. items are counted and +0 to the power level) Overall power level will determine the stats that are added to your gem when you are done.

Using White level 75 fragment and all level 1 materials and level 1 container.
0(Container)+75+0+0+0 = power level 75(or +1 stat). What would have been a +2 white talisman will now be boosted to +3 white talisman.

Using a White level 25 fragment, two level 25 materials and a level 1 material and container.
0(Container)+25+25+25+0 = power level 75(or +1 stat). What would have been a +2 white talisman will now be boosted to +3 white talisman.

Using a White level 75 fragment, two level 75 materials and a level 50 material and level 1 container.
0(Container)+75+75+75+25 = power level 250(or +2 stats). What would have been a +2 white talisman will now be boosted to +4 white talisman.

The +stats are added to the default starting stats depending on the rarity of the gem which can be found above.

This is just an example of how this mechanic works and how you could test it but has not been tested. The starting stats of the rarity of gems can be found above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most white talismans you see will be +2 because most people buy the default lvl. 1 req. materials from merchants in camps/warcamps.

If you use all level 50 or 75 items with a white fragment the outcome will be a much more powerful talisman(+4 or +5) on a low rarity white talisman. This means it will still only be an 8 hour buff but with higher stats.

In otherwords using higher level items will increase the +stats you will end up with on a talisman and has no effect on the rarity of the talisman you make.

Small Talisman Making Leveling Guide

(Fragments are obtained from Magical Salvaging)

When you Salvage items you have a chance to Successfully Salvage an item. You can check if the item was salvaged successfully in your chat log shortly after you salvage an item.

If you successfully salvage an item you will receive a fragment along with magical essences, but if your salvage failed you will only receive magical essences.

The list of items you can and cannot salvage is currently trying to be figured out as it seems very very inconsistent. If you can't salvage an item you may first want to check your chat log to make sure it isn't because you are not high enough skill yet in Magical Salvaging. If you are getting no responses from the game it might be best to just vendor the item and move on as it is likely that it is an un-salvageable item.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The major factor you need to take into consideration when leveling talisman making is the level of fragments you are using. You always want to make sure you are using the highest level fragments your profession can use at the time.

From what I can tell using high level and rarity materials with your fragments doesn't increase your chance to level.

Did a test at level 81 Talisman Making: (I leveled 3 times in a row with all level 1 req. merchant bought materials and a level 75 fragment from levels 81 to 82, 82 to 83, and 83 to 84).

Appoximate chance to level seems to decrease with level.

TM lvl 50-60 using level 50 fragments(with lvl all 1 materials) = ~80-100% to level
TM lvl 50-60 using level 25 fragments(with lvl all 1 materials) = ~0-20% to level

TM lvl 60-70 using level 50 Fragments(with lvl all 1 materials) = ~50-80% chance to level
TM lvl 60-70 using level 25 fragments(with lvl all 1 materials) = ~ 0-5% chance to level

TM lvl 70-75 using level 50 fragments(with lvl all 1 materials) = ~20-50% chance to level

The same rules would be applied for each interval of 25 levels, while always using the highest level fragments you can use at the time.

This is from personal experience and may not be 100% correct, but it is something to look at until a real guide comes out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------(NEW THEORY)-----------------------------------------
----------------------------------Didn't seem to work for me------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To level talisman making it is said that you can level by creating NEW RECIPES. This would be determined by the FRAGMENT. Ex. If you just hit level 50 talisman making you have never used level 50 fragments before so you would have 100% chance to level from using one. Different types of fragments would level you like level 50 - (wounds, strength, toughness, willpower, initiative, spirit resist, elemental resist, corp. resist, ballistic).

Now to level very consistently you would want to use a combination of these fragments to level more quickly.

According to the theory every new recipe made should give you 100% chance to level.
Chance to level should decrease with repetition of same recipes.

Ex #1.
Level 50 TM
Use level 50 fragments

TYPE(Recipe) / Est. Chance to Level

1. Wounds / (100%)
2. Wounds / (90%)
3. Wounds / (80%)
4. Strength / (100%)
5. Strength / (90%)
6. Strength / (80%)
7. Toughness / (100%)
8. Toughness / (90%)
9. Toughness / (80%)
10. Willpower / (100%)
11. Willpower / (90%)
12. Willpower / (80%)
13. Initiative / (100%)
14. Initiative / (90%)
15. Initiative / (80%)
16. Spirit Resist / (100%)
17. Spirit Resist / (90%)
18. Spirit Resist / (80%)
19. Elemental Resist / (100%)
20. Elemental Resist / (90%)
21. Elemental Resist / (80%)
22. Corp. Resist / (100%)
23. Corp. Resist / (90%)
24. Ballistic / (100%)
25. Ballistic / (90%)

There may be another factor that makes your chance to level lower while you gain levels over time. (This is my original theory that can be found above in approximate chance to level section).

In this scenario you would want to use this to level

Ex #2

Level 50 TM
Use level 50 fragments

TYPE(Recipe) / Est. Chance to Level (With level chance decreasing over time it would make the 100% chance to level for new recipe just a lower chance.)

1. Wounds / (100%)
2. Wounds / (95%)
3. Wounds / (90%)
4. Wounds / (85%)
5. Wounds / (80%)
6. Wounds / (75%)
7. Strength / (95%)
8. Strength / (86%)
9. Strength / (78%)
10. Strength / (70%)
11. Strength / (62%)
12. Strength / (56%)
13. Toughness / (90%)
14. Toughness / (80%)
15. Toughness / (70%)
16. Toughness / (60%)
17. Toughness / (50%)
18. Willpower / (88%)
19. Willpower / (76%)
20. Willpower / (64%)
21. Initiative / (85%)
22. Spirit Resist / (80%)
23. Elemental Resist / (75%)
24. Corp. Resist / (70%)
25. Ballistic / (65%)

After you level 25 times you should be to the next interval (level 75 in this case) and should be able to start this process over using level 75 fragments.

These are all made up percentages on how the system possibly works. If anyone wants to test this they can feel free to and post results.

so from your current finding. only fragment determine the chance for skill up?

So if I only care for skill up, I can just use all level 1 curio, gold essence, and magic essence?

It might be a good idea to use rvr objective artisan's gift to temp boost profession skill by 10. I know there's one for tier1 rvr.

Not sure if tier2 and up have artisan's gift objective.

I will test and edit.

EDIT: Confirmed, I just leveled 3 times in a row with all level 1 materials from merchant bought items.

Talisman level was 81.
I performed three tests.

Tested at level 81:

Test 1:

Container(Journeyman's Relic Box)..... = Level 1

Fragment......................................... = Level 75 (White, Toughness)

Gold Essence(Murky Golden Core)...... = Level 1
Curio(Mojo Coin).............................. = Level 1
Magical Essence(Silent Essence)........ = Level 1

Created: +3 Toughness 8h
Leveling up: Successful

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tested at level 82:

Test 2:

Container(Journeyman's Relic Box)..... = Level 1

Fragment......................................... = Level 75 (White, Strength)

Gold Essence(Murky Golden Core)...... = Level 1
Curio(Mojo Coin).............................. = Level 1
Magical Essence(Silent Essence)........ = Level 1

Created: +3 Strength 8h
Leveling up: Successful

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tested at level 83:

Test 3:

Container(Journeyman's Relic Box)..... = Level 1

Fragment......................................... = Level 75 (White, Willpower)

Gold Essence(Murky Golden Core)...... = Level 1
Curio(Mojo Coin).............................. = Level 1
Magical Essence(Silent Essence)........ = Level 1

Created: +3 Willpower 8h
Leveling up: Successful

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talisman Making Level is now 84.

So far so good, at level 80 talisman making you can level up from level 1 merchant bought materials.

The level of fragments is the most important part when leveling Talisman Making.

What I don't understand is that I am at level 12 character, yet I have come across 1 item i could salvage. I never get anything salvagable, and since you can't buy fragments - I haven't been able to even make one talisman.

It's pretty difficult to find not only salvageable items at low levels but non-bugged salvagable items because some items just don't let you salvage them. If you don't have friends to send you greens you might have to buy your greens from the chapter 1 / tier 1 renown merchant.

The only item I could find from that merchant that would let me salvage was the weapon that costed about 13 silver.

Also keep in mind that I am a goblin shaman so you might have a different selection of items depending on which class you chose. (My weapon might be salvageable but yours might not be, you will have to test it out).

A lot of the items I salvage are from PQ's by either them dropping in groups or by winning loot at the end. You can always go back and do all the Chapter 1-4 PQ's for quick greens to level your talisman making / salvaging.

thx

i have been salvaging like a madman and still no fragments

is there a list of what are considered fragments, do they have grey tags on them so when you 'mouse over' the icon it will say "talisman crafting - fragment"?

We don't yet have a complete list, but http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/Talisman_Making has a lot of the fragments listed.

The grey text does say that it is a fragment.

If all you get are echos, whispers, and essences, your skill is probably too low. A failed Magical Salvaging roll results in no fragments, only those

One question, I havent found a single fragment and Im level 9 now. Where do I get them, I have everything else required for talisman making but I cannot seem to get magical fragments.

I did take scavenging, was I supposed to take salvaging?

Yeah, its Magical Salvaging. Curse Mythic later for making the skills so similar in name.

But all is not lost. With the silver from selling scavanged stuff, you can buy the green renoun gear at the warcamp and shard it (fragment it?). Given that most Talisman Makers rely on this ANYWAYS, you haven't really lost all that much time!

Do you remember what the level of the materials you used to make it was? It would help me make a more accurate guess of what the starting stats are. I'm just assuming you had at least one level 25 or 50 item in there for now.

Also there is a small update for those who are wondering what fragments are.
