The two desks face each other across the long rectangular room, the doors midway between them and the walls stacked with bookcases full of files and folders and indeed, books. Mounds of paperwork sit untouched, waiting patiently for their turn, on the desks of the two people sat dealing with the toppling mountains of bureacracy. One is a man, blonde hair and a scraggly beard that could be handsome if he took care of himself. The other is a woman, with pale skin and an aristocratic face which is oddly cold. She sits with her head supported by one hand, staring at a piece of paper in front of her. After a few moments, she dips a quill into the ink pot to one side and scratches a signature at the bottom, along with a few choice notes. The paper was transferred from one heap of paper to the other.

She reaches for the next piece, and purses her lips as she glances at it, 'Hmmm.'

The man looks up, intrigued and happy to be distracted from the tiresome tax form he had being trying to fill in. 'Something interesting?'

'A new application to join the guild.' She looks up with a smirk. 'I think he's gotten confused though, he wants to join us as a knightly order.'

Henri's short laugh filled the small space, 'Well, he certainly came to the wrong place.'

Falcia, the Leader of the Silver Court - while Henri was its Adept Commander, responsible for the Scholar and Rogue sections of the guild - nodded in agreement, 'It is a bit of a misleading name, we are a band of ragtag heroes, thieves, outlaws, and the empoverished or disenfrachised. I guess we are just a place for those who have no family anywhere else, and nowhere else to go.'

'We really are a family.' Henri nodded, the rare flickering of a smile touching his lips.

'Yes, we are,' she replied as she bent to writing the knight a short reply as to why he didn't really want to join.

Charter of the Silver Court

Aims


The aims of the Silver Court are to achieve the varied goals, short-term and long-term of its members, those which are possible with the abilities available, through mutually beneficial grouping and members with very different abilities and goals. An atmosphere of “you help me and I shall help you” is what is desired to be cultivated, along with the achievement of the personal aims of the members. For monetary reasons, mercenary activities of any nature can be undertaken on the initative of any member or group of members.

Laws

These laws apply to all members, including the Leader, and if broken one of the other leaders with power over that degree of crime takes responsibility over the punishment.

  • Do not murder other members unless you are actively defending yourself from a life-threatening attack. Try to spare innocents at all times.
  • Do not steal from other members, or break/ruin their equipment or possessions.
  • Do not cause a member to come to harm, either directly or indirectly, knowingly.
  • Treat the guildhouse with respect. Do not bring in any item or person that would be considered to be either illegal or illicit (that includes s) or likely to cause harm to the furnishings or fittings of the guildhouse. Do not harm the guildhouse or its furnishings more directly. Damage, accidental or not, is to be paid for by the perpetrator.
  • Try not to break the laws of the city. If you do, and you are found out, the guild will not interfere in the carrying out of Justice, but will render what aid is possible in the shape of flight from the area if it is a possibility. If any members independently decide to aid the stricken members, by legal or illegal means, the same rule applies.

Powers and Responsibilities of the Leader, Commanders and Captains

Powers: The leaders of the Silver Court have the authority to command a member in the section indicated underneath their leadership out of the heat of battle and within it. This is restricted to the assigning of tasks during missions, battle tactics, and other guild based activities. The leaders cannot order a member to do anything in their personal, out-of-guild activities, unless it has a direct effect on other members of the guild or a guild mission.

The Leader, and the Leader only, can agree on alliances with other guilds, on changes to the guild Charter.

If a member causes destruction or harm to come to another member or their belongings, or steals them, then they are liable for punishment once the perpetrator is found. Punishments range from a verbal lecture for minor crimes, to physical labour for major crimes, and eviction for serious crimes. Any leader or member may make their desire for any of these punishments to be carried out known, but only Group Captains or above can put punishments for minor and major crimes into effect. Commanders and the Leader may evict a member from the guild for a serious crime. To be classed as a serious crime, it has to have an impact upon another member’s life to the extent where it is in danger or seriously impaired.

The leaders may also make general decisions about the day-to-day running of the guild, such as finding new members somewhere to sleep, arranging meetings for their group or the guild as a whole, and so on.

The Leader has power over all members, including other leaders. The Commanders have power over the two groups underneath their control, either the Adventurers and Rogues for the Scout Commander, or the Warriors and Scholars for the Knight Commander. This includes the Group Captains for those two groups. The Group Captains have power over their group.

Responsibilities: The leaders of the Silver Court are charged with the safety of the members, as insofar as that is possible, and the realisation of both their and the leaders’ goals. They are responsible for organising missions to attain said goals, and picking suitable companions for the mission to aid the effort. They are required to explain orders upon questioning by a member beneath their control, but may only be disobeyed if an order is/they are found to be insane or suicidal.

The Leader is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the guildhouse, and all general equipment available to the guild as a whole therein. Also the safety of any members’ equipment stored in the vault. They are responsible for keeping guild funds safe and in use, and that the guild runs smoothly and without incident.

The Commanders are responsible for keeping the peace between members and solving disputes, arguments and fights - preferably without violence. They will be the ones who usually deal with punishments and accusations.

The Scholar Captain is responsible for keeping a copy of the Charter available for viewing at all times, as well as an updated roster of members and their current goals. Also for helping any members who desire to do so to learn to read and write. Other scribe work and keeping records of previous missions, funds, invoices, and so are also under this Captain's purview.

The Warrior Captain is responsible for making sure that all members know some self-defense, and in helping members who desire to learn more about warfare, how to do so. Teaching the group to fight better and in a team is an important charge.

The Rogue Captain is responsible for keeping the guild aware of any threats or unseen consequences that have appeared with the intent on wishing the guild harm, within or without. They can also be a good information source on potential missions.

The Adventurer Captain is responsible for making sure all members know a degree of survival lore, in the unlikely event that they are stranded in the wilderness.

Alliances and Enemies

An alliance may be entered into with any guild that does not support Chaos in any way shape or form, dependant on the agreement of the Leader and at least one of the Commanders and two of the Group Captains. A statement to make another guild a known enemy or go to war with them also requires this agreement.

There are only three alliances available.

Non-Aggression Pact: This states that the members of the guilds will not harm each other for any reason, and the other guild is viewed with a certain amount of favour. Breaking a Non-Aggression Pact knowingly constitutes a serious crime.

Alliance: The members of the guilds will not harm each other, but will aid each other in battle and peace-time to the best of their abilities. Perpetrating crimes on a member of a guild that the Silver Court are allied with is treated as if the perpetrator had inflicted the crime(s) on a member of the Silver Court.

War: The guilds are at war, expect violence from members of the other guild and members are expected to do their best both to protect themselves and inflict damage on the enemy to the best of their abilities. Certain unique situations may call for a waiving of this rule.

Applying to Join

Anyone may join the guild as long as they are not in the list above, insane, Chaos-touched, necromancers, or any other despicable unliving or monstrous creature. However, the Leader and Commanders hold the right to refuse membership to an individual on other grounds.

If they have a decent level of writing ability, in that they can contribute to a roleplay with advanced writers without detracting from it, and instead adding to it, which shall be either determined by a perusal of writing already written by the applicant, personal knowledge, a trial, or other means, then they shall be allowed a place in the guild. The Leader and Commanders can all allow members into the guild based on this judgement.]

Layout of the Guild House

The guildhouse sits on a non-descript street in the Merchant's Quarter of Marienburg, but it is far different from the buildings on either side. It looks brand new, and in fact it is as an unfortunate incident had it burned to the ground. After much expense and patience, it is rebuilt.

Three stone steps lead up to the double door made out of fresh pine. The wood still has a scent to it, it is that newly interred. The façade of the house is mainly made of cheap grayish stone and tarred timbers, five windows looking out onto the street and a sign swinging slightly in the stiff breezes. The emblem of the Silver Court, a silver cross with a circle as its edge on a field of navy, sits nestled between the words themselves in a flowing blue script.

The guildhouse opens up from the doors into a large area full of round tables with several chairs set about each one. At the end of the room there is a bar, stocked thinly with spirits, beers and wines but also with food and water. A spiral staircase resides in the furthest leftmost corner, corkscrewing up the next two levels and into the attic. Three doors lead out from the lounge, one to the north, the west and the east.

The door to the east leads to the office. Two desks are set across from each other, a large set of cupboards between them on the eastern wall that reaches to the ceiling. Smaller bookcases lean behind each desk and chair, on opposite sides of the room and pushed up against the walls. Paperwork is already threatening to swamp the desks.

The door to the west leads to the Vault. A heavy iron door with an incredibly complicated lock is set into a thick wall, opened with two keys. Inside is an empty room that is surprisingly small for the space it takes up and has a stone floor. The Vault has a double-lock that is almost lock-pick proof and walls a foot thick.

The door to the north, near to the bar, leads to the outside sparring area. It is a large courtyard that takes up the empty space between the guildhouse and the building behind it. A timber fence, black with tar, stretches from one end to another only interrupted by a small gate. Beyond it, pale sand covers the entirety of the fighting area, and three large straw targets are affixed to the eastern wall. A pump sits in its accustomed place to the right, beside two stone benches and on the left is a large weapons rack with a wooden slatted roof to keep off the rain.

Up the stairs to the first level, there is a narrow corridor leading from the stairs and three doors until the corridor turns sharply right. The first door of the three is the doctor's office. Inside, a fireplace stands laid next to a cupboard, a comfortable bed and a metal trough scrubbed clean. The cupboard is low enough to be a table, and on it various medical staples are arrayed neatly.

The other eleven rooms are more or less the same. Each room is available for minimum rent for Silver Court memberbs. They are fairly plain, with a small single bed accompanied by a bedside table. A small dresser and cupboard edge away from a woven rug on the wooden floor. One is a strange shape, but has already been taken by a member.

The attic room is Falcia's, and sports a double bed, two bedside tables and a smaller rug at the foot of the bed. A small wooden chair and cupboard complete the ensemble, barely fitting into the room that is large but has sharply sloping ceilings. At the edges of the room, one needs to crawl to touch the wall.

Throughout the guildhouse, the walls are painted a smoothing white and the floorboards are a greyish pine. A hat and cloak stands sits by the door as you make your way out again to the streets.

Well, we've done it. £315.00 has just being removed from my account and now we need ten lucky vic-... travellers, to go to this website and pay for their place at the Cumberland Street self-catering apartment. Only ten people, and one of these is reserved as Illya for health reasons (his bloody snoring). £31.50 for the three nights, just click on the button and put your character name and real name in the notes, before posting on the thread to make sure that no-one books themselves in as the eleventh person.

I'm gonna be able to tell for absolutely certain after I call my folks sometime tomorrow. I'm still in Arizona, so I'm allowing them full control of my bank account and I asked them to look into a ticket to Edinborough thingy. Man, it's only 9pm about, and I'm completely WRECKED!

I'm still in Arizona, and will be till the 16th of this month. After that I'll be in Trinidad till the 14th of September, then in New York till the 18th of September. I'll be able to come online a bit more often by then. Cheerio, cheerio darlings.

Also, I can buy Gouda cheese here! Ownage.

Still doing the holiday thing. Still annoyed that I haven't done the booking for the flight yet. Still annoyed that the cheese in America is Not Good.

Still wondering what type of caster the elves will have, either buffish, or offensiveish. And also, wondering if monkeys could possible, ever, fly when introduced to genetic manipulation by a mind as twisted as mine.

Depends how you define 'fly'. Most things can exert a limited amount of airborne prowess when exposed to massive vertical distances and massive lack of support.
