Data.myp is a tumour in your PC

From the SA WAR forum:

Quote:
After leaving the patcher logged in, without starting the game proper, for a short while this evening I got a warning message about free space on my hard drive.

The WAR install is now 63 gigs. Turns out it is leaving the patcher idle that does it. Some people have managed to pass 100 gigs.

It's the data.myp file, deleting it and then running a file check is meant to fix it. Until the cancer comes back.
This sounded absurd enough to check, so I did. And sure enough, my data.myp was over 16 GB. I deleted it, ran a full file check in the patcher, and downloaded a fresh new 48mb data.myp.

Go to your Warhammer directory and check how big your data.myp has gotten.

You probably want to think about fixing this at some point, Mythic.

Mine is sitting around 56-57mb as well. Never heard of such a weird thing. I would be a little pissed off if I was on an internet plan that had a smallish data usage cap. 60+GB is an awful lot.

I think Comcast has a cap around 250GB per month now for example but places like Australia might be quite a bit lower.

Glad to help TBH everyone should be made aware of this rather major bug, I'm sure quite a few people have giant data.myp files and don't realise it.

You can delete that file ( or rename if youre paranoid) and then rerun patcher. I t will download the proper data which weighs in at 48mb Hasnt changed in weeks , after i did this because my data had ballooned to 236gb

Also because of a very bad and slow connection here im very certain this is not fully downloaded data. Its like when you use torrents, the file space is allocated to the files before anythings downloaded but for all intents purposes the hard drive space is in use but isnt.

im talking GB the origianl data.myp is 48mb mine balloned all the way up to 158GB.

I also agree with Izorplank as i too dont have a very fast connection so i doubt i could of downloaded all those extra GB but something was filling all that space.

Tested this last night, leaving the patcher idle. Before size was 56 megs, after idle for 3 hours was 56 megs. Not doubting the OP's claims whatsoever, perhaps this only effects certain clients.

I also checked over 2 weeks ago when I first heard of this issue, 56 megs then as well.

Very strange.

strange .. 160gb.. thats crazy.. maybe this is the root cause of all that CTD some people having.. running out of harddisk space is reason enough for windows to go kaput.

OP can u check folder size for each folder in your warhammer directory ? which one got the most stuff ?

\cache
\interface
\logs
\miles
\notes
\patcher
\pb
\support
\user

if your log directory is full, then turn off debugger by typing /debug in warhammer chat and click everything off

Roflcopters!

I just tried to install a program on my PC and it said there wasn't enough space. I assumed the installation program was broken, since it's an old application. Anyway, I checked my C:\ drive and noticed that there was indeed only 3GB free. A bit more checking showed my Warhammer directory was... get this... 340GB! I poked some more an found the culprit is a 327GB data.myp.

http://www.kop.nildram.co.uk/images/data.myp.gif

I thought that was "a little strange" and a Google search dumped me at this thread. It's crazy that the file can get so large...

No. However, I am still using the same installation I've been using for almost a year (through beta). I've never had any intro movies other than the shield.
