WAR Wins Best MMO of 2008

Warhammer Online won Best MMO of 2008 on X-Play's Best of 2008 awards. The nominees it beat were Age of Conan and World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King. This is great news for Warhammer, but also great news for the MMO genre as a whole.

WAR was also nominated for Best Gameplay Innovation for it's Public Quest system, but sadly was beaten out by Little Big Planet's Custom Map Creator/Sharer.

Also WAR was selected as Best PC MMO, one of the Top 10 PC games of 2008, and Best Use of License from GameSpy. Now, I'm unsure the criteria for Best PC MMO and what other ones it beat out on that list, but it did beat out Wrath of the Lich King on the Top 10 list by being #2 while WotLK was #4.

And, over at GameFocus, WAR won Best MMO Game/Expansion of 2008; beating out Wrath of the Lich King (WoW expac), Mines of Moria (LotRO expac), and The Shadow Odyssey (EQ2 expac).

Finally, WAR won Best Persistent World Game of 2008 over at IGN while up against Age of Conan and Pirates of the Burning Sea. By look of the choices, it would seem that this was for new MMO games only but still a good award anyways.

So, it would seem that critics agree that the overall gameplay of WAR is addictively fun and entertaining even when stacked up against some tough competition.

Mainly because war is something new and innovative and WOTLK is just recycled textures and ideas from 4 years ago.

People always overreact and most of the time don't give a game enough of a chance when it starts. Their expectations are way too high and they're too blinded by what's bad to see what's good. They're a poison to any new MMO and shouldn't even play them at launch. They'll come back curiously in a couple of months as WAR continues to improve, just so they can 1) feel better about their "LAWL WAR SUX" attitude if the game hasn't improved that much, or 2) quietly come back into the fold and never admit they were overreacting.

WAR had its high point, it had its low Oct/Nov point, and now it's slowly on the rise again. Roller coaster MMO launch effect.

Most of these categories don't even have WotLK when putting WAR up against it(it is an expansion, not a new game, so they aren't comparing Overall WoW vs WAR.) and when they do, they aren't going to recommend WotLK to new players when it isn't a new game and is ONLY good for people that already have high level characters in WoW, it's just an addition to WoW. Grats WAR being the BEST MMO in 2008 when every other MMO released was terrible.

So many positive news is good for the future of the game. Maybe it will draw more people to the game!

I would say that WotLK suffered by not including any new race or starter area and restricting the DK to who had already a high level toon. But ofcourse that "suffered" is relative since they sold enormous amounts of boxes.

Good for WAR. Although, tbh, most of the MMOs this year were weak, compared with the awesomeness on display in other genres.

PS WOTLK was a great xpac and its concept of 'phasing' - whereby the persistent world changed around you as you progressed in storyline - was fantastic.

Phasing was indeed excellent, however, WoW is, well, WoW.
Same as its been for 4 years, but with a shiny new paint job.

Congratulations for WAR then.
Unfortunately for the publications, every non-player or ex-subscriber is now doubting the integrity of these lists.

They copied phasing from LotRO.
But i wish WAR had it too.

War derserves this price. But can Mythic please fix the bugs / crashes / random DC'ing / screen frezzing instead of nerfing more classes / adding and ajusting items?

I've seen you at times quoting mod rules to people who break them on the forums, dude do you work or are related to someone that works at Mythic?

If its too personal a question, you don't have to answer.
