Breaking News: XFire Partners With WAR For Voice Chat Solution

MTV Networks subsidiary Xfire dropped a press release to us today:

Quote:
Xfire, committed to enhancing the gaming experience, can now offer gamers an all-new voice alternative at no cost thanks to its strategic partnership with Warhammer Online. Pro Voice, allows for up to 50 users at once and requires no setup or additional software.
Here's some features:

Quote:
WAR players, along with gamers of all types, will benefit from the many new features provided in the Pro Voice solution, including free hosted voice chat servers and crystal clear sound quality for hearing friends and clanmates on the battlefield.

Another new feature included in this solution is ‘Simple Room Navigation,’ which allows users to start a new chat room by simply typing its name. Pro Voice also will allow players to save their favorite chat rooms to a “chat tab” for future easy access.

Pro Voice users have the power to give voice communication to their entire WAR clans by simply creating a chat room once, get everyone in their clan to bookmark it with “Save,” and meet up in the room every time a game begins. Lastly, as the administrator, users will be able to kick, ban, silence and demote other players.

What does this mean? Is WAR getting integrated voicechat, or that Xfire's voicechat is getting some sort of hook into the game UI?

Just another distraction. People who want voice comm already can get it quite easily.

This game does not need more pointless addons while the game has serious core issues.

I think this will be a great addon for war if it gets some official support with some sort of management from ingame. Those that want to use vent are still free to do so...but this opens up the game and coordination with PUG groups and scenarios

LOTRO has voice chat built in. Its not very good and most people don't use it very often especially in PVE.

It is very popular in the PvP zone in the game though. Most people log on the chat so the commanders can organise stuff. I can imagine it being pretty popular for PUG warbands in WAR

PUG+voice comm sounds like a nightmare to me.

Oh god, I cant wait to listen on 13-olds that rage with their helium-voices, and the "owner" of the chat is tard, who cant manage it. People use vent for a reason.

You have got to be kidding me. Who came up with this bright idea? I mean the servers are already on their knees lagging like crazy and they want to stress them even more...

/facepalm

You can still use vent. you dont have to use this feature.

I for one think the voice chat in LOTRO was an excellent feature. It was good when running in the PvP raids that were not with a guild. Besides you can silence those you dont want to hear, a lot of the times i would silence everyone but the raid leader and assistants. If its done right it can be a great feature. Xfire is a pretty good voice chat provider, im not worried.

Heh. Two things:
1. I remember when WoW introduced voice chat. It was a disaster, and lagged the game incredibly.
2. WAR already lags incredibly.

...You do the math.

Mythic not good at math.

Free fall - sorry to say.

It makes me sad and angry to see how they let a golden opportunity like this game go down the drain. What a waste.

Yeah Azhul you tell 'em. From reading this thread I can really tell you know what you're talking about, you should really send your thoughts to Mythic, they seem really thoughtful and original.

stfu guildhopper. :P

I think 90% of players in War probably already use vent, really don't see why this is needed.

Yeah so it'd be a great idea to turn this thread into another one of those "mythic sux lolol" threads on that account
