Tome Unlock Tuesdays: Nude It or Lose It!

Last week, we began featuring a spot on the Tome of Knowledge, a misunderstood and underused feature of Warhammer which is now also the blame for longer loading times!

We don't have an official answer from Mythic on that one yet, but we do have this:

"At least you get achievements for being nude, unlike in another mature MMO."

Thats right, who wants to run around in their skivvies or less if you don't get anything for it but the screams of children and vegetables being thrown at your feet like offerings to Gork? What if you're like me and hardly know the difference?

In the spirit of adventure and storytelling, we continue on with the subject of nudity. Look at the bright side, it may be a couple more titles, but at least you don't have to lug that armor from one zone to the next!

The Exhibitionist

There is an old wives tale across the Talabec of a huntsman named Valdran who would pass through town three times every day to draw a bucket of water for the innsmaid. He would lean on the old planks of the wooden bar with his hat tipped low and take each long sip from his cup with a patient stride. When he was done, he would hand the cup to the barmaid and wink, strip down to his bitter ends, then head out to hunt witches in the highlands. "I'm a fair man," he was known to say. After nearly a decade of doing the same thing, (that's more than 10,000!) Valdran achieved his fame and was known as the Exhibitionist.

Lady Godiva

Lady Godiva, according to legend, walked her prized white horse to the center of Coventry, England, and mounted up completely naked in order to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants. The name "Peeping Tom" for a voyeur originates from later versions of this legend in which a man named Tom had watched her ride and was struck blind or dead.

Godiva is also one of the most delcious chocolatiers on the planet, but we are not yet sure if this reward comes with a lifetime supply.

In either case, these are certainly titles you wont mind...showing off...to everyone, as their obscure reference or swashbuckling dedication definately marks you as the daring type!

This.

It's been pretty well established over at the official forums that the more ToK unlocks you have the longer the loading times will be while zoning or logging in. A fix was promised a month back or so, but the problem still exists.

EDIT: To stave off more complaints like the post below: I actually like this feature on WHA, I like the ToK and I like unlocks. I don't like waiting 3 minutes for the game to load when I zone, however, and I think that maybe, just maybe, the staff at WHA has a better chance to get the message across to Mythic than I have.

Also, edited for clarity.

Warhammer Alliance has nothing to do with Mythic fixing these things. I think the Tome Unlock feature on WA is great for those interested in finding more Tomes and unlocking some nifty new titles.

If you don't want to unlock more to decrease performance, then don't do it. You don't have to complain in every single thread. If you want to do something more productive, report it to Mythic, don't bring it here.

Keep up the good work Aeternis!

In my experience this is pretty much 100% accurate. I can tell my loading times get longer and longer as I level and the only reason for that is because of the ToK. It is the only thing that accumulates as I'm leveling that wouldn't be there when I start a new toon. A new toons load times are swift.

Well the issue with loading times is hardly deniable, but I don't really care, as it's just too much fun getting the unlocks (especially the lore ones, with a quality and enjoyable RP write-ups).

Anyways, thanks for the rubric Aeterne!

If this is to be a regular item, wouldn't work better if it was explained how to get the unlock? In the case of Lady Godiva it's to take your armour off and summon your mount in your capital city.

If you read it carefully, it hints at how to get it. The point of the piece is to explore some of the lore behind the unlocks, mention some of the nifty titles you can get, and create interest in the ToK. It's not meant to spoonfeed, "Oh, here's this unlock, and this unlock." There's other sources for that material.

Indeed. We're hoping to generate some more interest in the ToK and the Lore behind WAR without giving a point by point explanation of how to get the unlock.

We don't want to spoil the journey for anyone else, just help illuminate the path a bit.

It seems a little too abstract though and removed from in-game realities of the unlocks. Would it not be better to give an example of one, something relatively minor i.e. the Godiva one mentioned, as a starting point, and then encourage players to try other things while naked to see what they can find?

As a collector of all known nude unlocks, I approve this thread.

i disagree entirely.
it's not "too abstract" for anyone with a modicum of imagination.
not to mention the more you demand people figure stuff out themselves the more they are apt to do that while actually playing the game.... and the more fun they end up having because of it.

good job wha.

On nudity, you know, Witch Elves should be able to have naked breasts, as in the real Warhammer lore. Bikinis to avoid adult ratings, are silly.

Lore-wise they are the Bacchantes of Warhammer, frenzied, blood-crazed maniacs. Instead they gave that to the "choppa" (why they invented a new archetype instead of using the existing Savage orc is beyond me) and made Witch Elves into assassins. You know, instead of using the existing Dark Elf assassins from the lore...

The title I proudly wear is "the target", gotten from these unlocks. Pretty cool as it focuses the nme attention I find.
