Breaking News - Dem Bones Is In The Mail

It seems that Mythic is at it again with the viral marketing, this time for Land of the Dead. Blogs and fansite runners should watch their mail, because something just might be arriving for them from Mythic.

Here's an excerpt from Tome of Knowledge's entry:

Quote:
As the letter suggests, these symbols act as a Rosetta bone (taken after the Rosetta stone, which I just saw a casting of the real thing this weekend ironically!).

Mythic has posted (or will post) 5 Tomb King cartouches. The only way to translate these five cartouches is to have the keys to the symbols, hence these bones. So in looking at my bones, we know the symbols for the letters “J”, “O”,“V”,“N”, and “C”. Other blogs will presumably post their own hieroglyphic codes and we’ll eventually have the solution to the 5 cartouches.

By translating these five cartouches, you’ll uncover a game code (hint: name of a long dead Nehekharan royal), you can then activate the game code on your Warhammer Account by going to: https://accounts.eamythic.com. The item you’ll receive is the Scarab Amulet. An item that releases a swarm of beetles all over you in true Mummy style!
If you're a blog or fansite and you've received something from Mythic, let us know!

Yeah, sending a box with some plastic bones and a map is such a huge undertaking. What were they thinking hyping out a new expansion?

Tis a slow work day here, so I created a key with the symbols in them.

Will be updating as more come around

I'm not even sure this time who'll get packages. I would have assumed RainbowWAR or Epic Slant, but I don't see announcements there yet.

Being in Canada, things tend to take a little longer to get here via post, so I'm truly surprised there hasn't been others posting about these bones before.

Just for one thread, lets leave our cynical bleh in the 1000's of other threads we shared it in.

I hope this expansion brings people back to the game, more people = more capital to pay for all that other stuff we love to complain about.

From the herald: "Over the next three weeks, Tomb King Skulls will be appearing on some of your favorite online gaming sites."

So they may be sending them out staggered.

I believe the skulls (encoded messages) will appear gradually, but the key should be sent out already. I infer that from the herald post tho, that says all have been mailed.

I guess we'll have to wait until folks start getting home from work/school to see them be posted.

Nothing wrong with some good marketing to mix things up a bit.

Viral campaigns? whats that going to do? get a handful of old players interested for 2 weeks? Your wasting valuable time on nickel and dime stuff, all the while dragging out this game to a slow death, rather than fix the huge problems that infest the game as it stands. Makes more sense to me to put that content development time into fixing the big problems which will not only keep the core audience happy and playing, but bring back more people who have been trickling away for past 4 months for not fixing those big problems. Call it common sense or mild retardation, but at least you won't be pissing off the current players anymore than you have, and lose more of them month after month.

Once again Mythic, if you are listening.

Is this what's going on in your head?

Mythic Employee 1: We need to hype this expansion out. How can we do it?
Mythic Employee 2: I know, we can buy some plastic bones and print out some maps and deliver them to bloggers!
Mythic Employee 1: Good grief, man! Do you know how much manpower that will take to package some nick-nacks and deliver them to people via UPS?
Mythic Employee 2: You're right. Oh, I know! We'll divert all our programmers and engineers to scribble down some symbols and go to the UPS store. That'll mean delaying important fixes for months, but damnit it's worth it!

If so...wow.

Mythic needs tough love, not sycophantic rubbage.
