WA@PAX: Shaman are OP

While hanging out around the Mythic booth at PAX, we had a chance to see some fun stuff.

We captured some video of Senior Designer Gabe Amatangelo demonstrating how to properly play a Shaman while giving a walkthrough of the end encounters in the Tomb of the Vulture Lord.

If you don't want to see how to beat these encounters, you may not want to watch the footage. That's your only Spoiler Warning.

You may recognize Josh Dresher of the Mythic team as well. He was displaying his many talents on this particular afternoon as he doubled as the "Sound Guy" for Gabe's epic encounter with the Vulture Lord.

Enjoy!

Let us know what you think of the footage.

I think its kind of ironic that the Devs use

Seriously tho, I wish all clients could run the game that well. It looks stunning.

I don't understand....

Excuse my cluelessness, but what was the point?

I saw a shaman in some kind of god-mode do crazy stuff in ToVL.

I thought maybe there was something to learn from the dialogue. Nope, that wasn't it either.

Would you mind explaining a little?

There is nothing to explain.

Mythic promoting for all to use. I can deal with the buggy game and imbalances but is something I can't play through.

Dazed and confused....

Ok, I must be watching it from the wrong perspective or something.

It's been a long week. I think I better just move on now.

Afterthought: Wait, I'm back....You mean all the Devs had to show us at PAX was what you could do with ?

Uhm..What?

The devs are not using , it's obviously dev/GM tools.

I hope you guys are kidding.

No I don't honestly think they are using , but I think it is very funny that it is exactly what can do for you... and here you see the devs using THIER version of it.

Think its more funny that is still around and not being dealt with, instead its being shushed, which wont eliminate this game breaking program.

No, Mythic does not promote the use of any cheating software; they can use their own Dev tools to get things done in a quicker manner. Mythic's policy on all cheating has been to NOT disclose it, or else it could cause more people to cheat. Simply because they do not mention it does not mean they do not know it is there. They have fixed SEVERAL cheating bugs with hotfixes and patches that go in when the servers come down for maintenance.

Personally, I can't see how you can take these videos so seriously and get so upset over this. If you're that disgruntled with the game that you cannot look at them joking over it "going into the Shaman patch notes" with alittle humour, maybe it's time to step back and re-evaluate where your feelings lie with the game itself, rather than the company or the people within.

I want to know the system specs of the computers they always use at demonstrations. I can run AoC on high but WAR runs like garbage for me, obviously not for them though. They ought to try using an average PC.

I am pretty sure they are using a client build that is unavialable to end users. I know they have been talking about a fix for all nvidia cards, but they don't want to release it yet. I would assume this is the client that uses the advance features and fixes. Kinda sad that we still have a subpar client after 1 year.

I had no issues running WAR smoothly, like in these videos, at max settings. Of course, RvR is a different story...

Carrie .. if the Mythic/Transgamming devs have any settings suggestions for us to try in the interim it would be helpful (until the official changes are out and snow leopard is out of the gate as well) ..

They have inside knowledge of how things are working and might save us some unnecessary head-wall butting / Face-palming in the interim .. :smileyvery-happy:

Any tweaks they can suggest would be VERY APPRECIATED to us .. thanks again..

I wish we did. You can be assured that if the problems were resolved by settings, that the magical GavrielS you've seen post a few times would be in here to help. (He's TG's CEO).

The major issue with lag on the Mac, in particular with Nvidia cards, has to do with the way in which Warhammer handles textures. The fix is a pretty massive improvement to the system that we've been working on and testing for more than a few months. (Which improves the client on all machines, incidentally) Because of the severity of the fix and the number of systems it touches, we really want to be sure we're confident with our testing before we push it live. And it also means there aren't many more low-hanging fruit, quick fixes, that will improve your experience until then.

For now, your best experience is after a clean shutdown and restart, a full file check, windowed mode, modified VBO, and on an ATI card.

Hopefully they will have this client update released soon, so we can start to play war as it is meant to be played.
