Dev Diary - John Cox (Combating Hackers)

Well the topic of this developer diary is a naughty word—the H word—H****** - er… hacking. It’s something we at Mythic don’t often talkabout openly, but we do take very seriously. It’s a very interestingsubject that I’d love to talk in-depth about; it has many challengesand curiosities that make for an interesting discussion. I get a senseof joy when I know we’ve ruined a hacker’s day. Unfortunately,“fighting the good fight” is very cloak-and-daggers stuff, going backand forth, with the hackers and cheaters—so, to talk about it in greatdetail also gives information to the very people we’re attempting tothwart. Here’s my best shot at showing you a glimpse behind thecurtain about how we handle hacking and cheaters without giving awaytoo many of our secrets!

Free Character Transfers 12/2/2009

Here at Mythic Entertainment we have always placed a highvalue on our communities and the players that make them up. This is especiallytrue when it comes to our special rule-set servers like Role-Playing and OpenRvR. There are many different things that have to be taken into considerationin order to nurture these communities. At the same time, WAR is a game thatthrives on player interaction; whether it’s Public Quests, fast paced Scenarioaction or the thrill of large-scale Open-field Realm vs. Realm battles. Both ofthese factors must be taken under consideration when deciding the future of ourunique rule-set servers.

Forthe past 14 months the Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne servers have beenthe home of two vibrant and passionate communities. We have watchedthese servers with great interest as they have journeyed through someamazing accomplishments since the launch of WAR, such as the first everking kill on a North American server.

And so, it is aftercareful evaluation and much discussion that we are announcing freecharacter transfers off of the Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne servers. Atthis time we plan to enable these free character transfers onWednesday, December 2nd. Below are the prospective destination serversfor both Phoenix Throne and Dark Crag:

Phoenix Throne will be able to transfer to either Iron Rock OR Badlands

Dark Crag will be able to transfer to either Gorfang OR Volkmar

Inorder to welcome all of our players to their new homes we will beenabling a 20% bonus to experience and renown during the weeksfollowing the open character transfers.

Have a happy holiday and we’ll see you on the battlefield!

Thank you for your continued support.

Please keep conversation in this thread civil and on topic.

This is a very large incentive to never play the game again. I imagine there will be many people in the same situation, given the large amounts of inact1ff8ive accounts in my guild currently due to the status of Phoenix Throne for order. I find it unlikely that my guildmates will spend 15 dollars over the next few days when information is finally disseminated and we are in the holiday season. This is an incredibly poor future financial decision forWarhammer as potentially thousands of dollars will be lost when inactive players do not bother reactivating in the future when they don't know if they will be able to rejoin their guildmates.

The errors in this announcement are many.
1.This announcement hasnot been posted online in game and many people are unaware. We do not all read these forums. In fact, this is my first time on the forums since beta. I came to play a game, not read forums, and therefore all important information should be available at game level. Many people are missing this information and therefore do not have the ability to make informed decisions.
2. There is no current information on the important details of character transfer. Inactive characters have the issues posted above. Guilds that have limited membership now must find the time, reorganize, clean guild banks, potentially change the names of our friends which leads to a great deal of leadership work and fragmentation of cohesiveness within a guild.
3. I would assume that technically it is possible to move an entire guild and its current membership at one time, with one move. Not doing this is going to decrease guild memberships, and guilds keep people playing.
4. I have not seen one official response by Warhammer developers to this thread and people lose confidence in important issues without managment response. We are more willing to spend money when we trust the people we are purchasing a product from.

It is all incredibly disappointing.

The original post is from the Herald. This is our standard format for announcing any game news. This post is simply a repost of the Herald article opened up to the community for discussion.

We will post our standard character transfer instructions when we make the official announcement post, again on the Herald. This post was a special circumstance as such that we wanted to get the information to the players before the Holidays.

As previous character transfers, all applicable rules apply, including Guild transfer functionality.

Dev Diary - Adam Gershowitz (The Underdog System)

"As many of you are aware version 1.3.3 introduced the “Underdog”system. It is important to note that we don’t consider this system tobe a silver bullet for the Tier 4 campaign; rather it is the first of anumber of changes we’re looking to roll out over next few patches.

The “Underdog” system allows us to dynamically balance the difficultyof the campaign (and its associated objectives) based on the results ofrecent campaign pushes. Ultimately this will require realms with longcampaign win streaks to be more coordinated and effective in order tokeep pushing into their enemies city. The loosing realm (commonlyreferred to as the Underdog) will benefit from this in two ways; Firstthey will have an easier time mounting a defense. Secondly, theunderdog realm will have an increased chance to push the campaign backto their enemies city for a short period of time..."

Please keep discussion on topic and civil.

Thanks!

Re: Dev Diary - Adam Gershowitz (The Underdog System)

This system was not put in place to affect tiers 2 and 3. The Underdog System is focusing specifically on Tier 4.
