Gateway M-6851 15.4" Notebook PC

http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-M-6851...3568249&sr=8-1

Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 / 1.6 GHz
3 GB ram
512 MB Geforce 8800M GTS
250 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm

price: $1,149.60

Seems to be the cheapest laptop there is with a 8800M GTS but with 1.6 GHZ is it enough to run WAR maxed?

what bout games like TF2/SC2/WoW/DoW-SS/Hitman-blood money?

1) Ugh, Gateway.

2) Gateway seems to always pair a great notebook video card, with a crappy CPU, which can almost kill the point of getting a great GPU because it's held back.

3) It should run everything okay (excepting crysis of course) but the slow CPU and slow(er) HDD in there dont help..

4) Since Nvidia just came out with the 9xxxm series, there should be more notebooks coming out with the 8xxxm's, and their prices should be lower. I suggest waiting a couple more months if you can. Like, if you need it for school/college, then wait till at least august if you can (most colleges dont start till the very end of august anyway).

So how does the 9XXXm series work for laptop? every 9XXXm series is better than 8800M series?

Is there any other company besdies Alienware/Gateway/HP that always produce laptops with latest GPU?

thanks for the info

I found this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=217627

seems they were saying the 9XXXM series are inferior to 8800M

The 9XXX aren't necessarily better. The 8800's are good card with nice prices and and pretty much run any game with good fps/speed.

This is a nice laptop.

It is pretty expensive but it will do the deed, however it might need a video card upgrade.

My bad, I haven't been doing much research on laptop GPU's lately; I spoke before I should have. However, just doing some quick reading, the 9series so far is the low end of the scale, but right now it is basically matching with the 8600's. So.. go for the 8800. Look around on newegg, they sometimes have good deals for good notebooks..

But really, you'll be much more satisfied if you buy a super cheap laptop for word processing/mobility and then use the rest of the money to get a desktop. Your gaming needs will be more satisfied and your laptop battery will last longer and it wont die near as fast.

EDIT: Asus has some good laptops

Yeah that's good, so I guess it's either faster processor or GPU...

Ironically I already have a $2000 laptop for word processing/art/etc(yes big mistake) and now I just want a cheap laptop that could play MMOs maxed/medium till 2011.

Plan to spend at LEAST another $2000 then for a laptop that will play that well for that long. Laptops suck when it comes to gaming, seriously. They are overpriced, hot (HOT!!), and have no battery life. Pretty pointless imo.

If you must get another laptop (wrong type of video cards in your other one?) look for better GPU over CPU, but you want to try and get a balance..

Lousy chip that shuts down the system if you try to play games...

I think the $1,199.99 laptop should suffice to play WAR maxed, I just want a laptop good enough to run most upcoming MMOs maxed-medium as for FPS/anything with Cryengine 2 I'll use the desktop

I travel frequently so without a laptop it'll disrupt my gaming routine
