[US Herald] - Guild Highlights: User Interface

From the General News category we have: Guild Highlights: User Interface

Quote:
This week we’ll explore the nuances of the Guild Interface, which is your tool for managing your guild and keeping in touch with fellowguildies. Our Guild Interface is really comprehensive and user-friendly,containing all the tools you need as a guild leader, guild member, or alliancemember. The guild interface contains six different windows: Profile, Calendar,Roster, Standard, Rewards, and Admin.

This looks like a great tool for handling a guild. I much prefer all these tasks to be handled in-game, rather than on a website. Nice job by the team.

The calendar feature is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. Being able to organize that all while in the game rather out of the game on some web site is just awesome. Kudos to the Mythic team on that decision.

So glad this is in-game. I much prefer it to downloading some mod or trying to organize events on a site.

Just another thing that shows Mythic knows what the players want and do exactly that.

Thanks for not cutting corners and taking your time guys!

I really like the calendar feature, and I'm surprised more games don't do something similar. One thing that I think would be really cool is if there was a web portal to your guild provided by Mythic, that gave you some of the same features while out of game (i.e. calendar access, forums, maybe even guild chat, etc.). SOE tried to do something like this for EQ2, but like everything SOE does, it failed miserably.

It looks like the guild functions are turning out nicely. I just hope they'll allow us to edit info of players who are offline (such as promote/demote or invite/remove to/from the guild).

Although it's best for all of this to be handled in-game, I would like, in addition, to see some things able to be handled from the Herald as well.

The calendar feature sounds great, though I believe I read that the calendar is something the guild gets at a certain level. That seemed strange to me. Baby guilds want to be organized too hehe

Be careful, WotLK might take that to heart and implement it, the same way they are implementing Achievements in the new expansion. Seriously, you think they could think of something for themselves.

Alas, back on topic, this information is greatly appreciated! Having a look at the Guild interface will help guilds accustom faster to the game.

There doesn't even need to be a confirmation of that, because the OB will not go live at the same time as they lift the NDA. Mbj himself has stated before that he thinks lifting the NDA 8 weeks or more in advance is the way to go, and he wants OB to last about 4 weeks. That alone should tell you that the OB has no chance to even start this week or even next week.

An Achievement system is not Mythic's invention. LotRO has had this since the beginning. Most games even have this nowadays thanks to XBox Live. Blizzard didn't steal anything from Mythic.

Yea, that is kind of odd. All the nice guild things sound like they are unlocked based on the level of the guild.

I think they might be doing this to promote long-lasting guild relationships, so that you have to show you can work together and you arent just making a guild for the benefits that come with it. You have to work as a team in order to get the good things. This means people wont join guilds just for the sake of it, but instead will make guilds in order to start new friendships with people they havent met before. I believe this will be a positive thing for the social aspect of guilds.

Well there's really no need for a lot of these features for a brand new guild of 6 people. I mean, you could have them all available right away, but it would almost be too much to deal with up front. I remember in DAoC, after you formed a guild you'd spend at least a couple hours setting up the ranks, giving permissions out to each rank, picking the emblem. And who knows, the guild may only have lasted a few days till it was remade, or the members would start leaving. So, all in all, I think what they've put together looks great. I don't mind that some things have to be earned, and I'm sure they'll be earned pretty quickly for any motivated guild and it won't be a big deal.

Something that I would love to see though, would be a message board tab on there. I absolutely hate guilds that require you to go find them on the web, sign up for their forums, and then post a bunch of "nice to meet you" stuff. I mean it's possible that the "note" options in-game will give a player enough room to actually say something about themselves, but a simple message board in-game would be great, especially if it was tied to the guild calendar and roster. So you could do something like click on an event and it would take you to a discussion about the event. Or you could click on someone's name in the roster and it would allow you to send a message to them...maybe even through a mail system. That being said, this interface is certainly a much better way to keep in touch with your guild and plan events. Without requiring members to check a forum on some random website.
