The top 10 greatest features of WAR!
I've been thinking, and I know what my top 10 favorite things are, but what are your guys'?
Here are mine, in order of my top favorite to lesser favorites. 1) Gear Undependency - I've always hated how in other games, the major factor on the winner of a fight was whoever had the better gear. It didn't reward those for their skill in combat, but for their time investment into getting good gear. In WAR, it's been said that gear, although it will help in combat, will not as big of a factor as other skill-based things. This is just the first thing to show that Mythic knows exactly what we, the players, want! 2) Level with RvR and PvE - I, for one, hate PvE. I can stand little amounts of PvE, if its fun and there's a reason for it. This is a major thing that turns me off other MMORPG's. I just cannot stand leveling to the max, killing robots(Usually by myself, too.) This is probably the thing that caught my eye and made me read more about Warhammer. I just love the fact that I can go do some quests for PvE if I want, but if I get bored I can go have fun and kill a bunch of enemy players and still get levels. 3) Keeps - When I heard that they decided to add keeps to the game, I was just ecstatic. In other games, I never felt like I was fighting for anything. But now, in Warhammer, I feel like I am fighting, with others, towards keeping or taking over a part of the world that is a sense of pride. 4) Living Guilds - Living guilds are a fantastic idea. I just love how it isn't just a little nametag, a list of people, and an extra channel to talk with people(As it is in other games.). In Warhammer, your guild levels with you, you get unlocks on your guild as it levels, your guild will have banners that help in large scale combat. 5) City Sieges - In many other MMO's, cities were nothing more than a place to trade, find groups, or socialize. They were just places that noone really cared about defending if they were ever attacked, because not only will the attackers really be able to do long-term damage, what is funny is that there are so many people inside the city just talking(probably because there was nothing else to do in the game) that they outnumbered the attackers 10 to 1. And since there were no long-term consequences, they never changed at all. But, in Warhammer, you will have to fight to be allowed to keep your city. There will be long-term consequences if you don't. With other games, there would maybe be 20-40 people attacking your city(if they ever did), but in Warhammer it is going to be hundreds, if not thousands, of blood-thirsty raiders that would be happy to pillage your city and lower its rating, and you are the only one that can stop them. 6) Tome of Knowledge - The Tome of Knowledge is such a great idea. I'm not the most knowledgeable to exactly what it will do, but I do think this is what it will function like. Finally a game comes with a tool that will keep track of your achievements. It'll have unlocks for you to get, tell you where you've been and what you've done. Maybe it'll have meters such as to keep track of damage delt, healing delt, damage taken, healing taken. I would love to see how much damage I have inflicted since I first started the game. There are so many possibilities that this holds! 7) Public Quests - I have always hated doing quests and leveling all alone. It was, and will never, be fun. But, WAR brings an all new meaning to quests. No longer will I be forced to solitude while I level. Now, I can group up with tons of other people and work toward one common goal. Also, I love how loot is rewarded. You can't just join on the last part of a Public Quest and get the same reward as the guy who was there when it started. You are rewarded for your participation. Also, this is a great socializing feature. You will be grouping up and strategizing with random strangers. This will force people to go out and make friends. What a great idea! 8 ) Scenarios - There are too many things to love about scenarios. In another game especially, which shall remain unnamed, there were only 4. And these 4 "battlegrounds", as they call them, had no reason other than to "farm"(and trust me, all they were used for was just to grind continuously) "honor points" and these stupid little things called "Marks of Honor". "Honor Points" and "Marks of Honor" were just another tool to gain gear. It was funny to see 10 people make a "pre-made" group and then purposely do nothing to lose incredibly fast to get honor and marks so that you wouldn't have to have a long, ongoing fight. Now, onto Warhammer's scenarios. There are a reason to do scenarios. FUN! They aren't made to grind until you're bored, they are there for going in and having a great amount of fun in a short amount of time. Not only do you have fun in Warhammer's scenarios, but there are other bonuses. As with other things, you will level in scenarios. You will gain renown, your success in scenarios will help in the war-effort of the ultimate goal of sacking enemy cities, but most importantly you are going to enjoy your time in a scenario. 9) Living Cities - As mentioned earlier, I hate the idea of having a city be nothing but a place that never changes. You have to work to get to be a prosperious and beautiful place in WAR. Not only do you have to work to open new locations and raise its raiting, but you will have to put every ounce of strength in defending your hard work from the enemies that are trying to sack it and take it back to a garbage dump. 10) Combat System - Warhammer's combat system is unlike any I have ever seen. The 3 different types of abilities are just ingenious! Action(which most other MMO's stop here), tactics, and morale abilities are just another way that you can customize your character. Not only are they good for customization of your playstyle, you will need to strategize to use them correctly. This just adds another reason why you need to have skill, because the person with more skill and knowledge of how to play the game is going to win the fight. Also, another thing which just gets me jumping up and down is the multi-targeting system. This makes our lives so much more easier. Now, we can heal/buff our friend and kill/debuff our enemy at the same time, without having to search around and looking for them. Others) Unique Classes - Having 24(20 for now) seperate classes just crushes other games in choosing exactly how you want to play your game. Trophies - I like being able to let every one know of my accomplishments. It's a great feeling letting the person that you just killed know that you were the guy that killed his King and also part of the raid that stole your keep. Dyes - I really like being able to choose my armor color, and even color coordinate. I hate being forced to kill people in a clown costume, and dyes can let me escape that. And, just to sum it up, Warhammer just rocks. I just named 13 different things(And there are many, many other features which I didn't include) which Mythic has done greater than any other game out that. I have no idea why there are so many new features in Warhammer that are so incredibly ingenious and yet are superbly great, but yet no other games have them! All I have to say now is great job Mythic, keep up the GREAT work! Wow that's pretty much what I have on my little list of favorite things about WAR. Only I'd put city sieges in first and bump everything back. Being able to take control of an opponent's city is going to be awesome.

1.) Unique careers: Non cookie-cutter, race-specific classes will raise the bar if balancing is done correctly. This will definately make gameplay interesting and varied, and bring immersion to a new level. Envelope pushing, bold, and challenging. I'm excited!
2.) Dynamic characters: Having your character actually change in appearance (ie: age, grow, etc) is genius. A small cosmetic thing, but I think it'll add to immersion and add a fun element to the game. 3.) RvR: Making PvP a main focus and pitting literally everything you do a tug-of-war for dominance will bring players together to experience that realm or race pride that I loved experiencing in other games. PvP for fun, glory, and for pride of your race, not gear! 4.) Sieges: I don't think I need to explain this one. And keeps get claimed and controlled by guilds? Awesome. 5.) Public Quests: What a great way to cater to someone with less time to play and simplify grouping. Not to mention group sizes in other games were limited, this will surely bring lots of people together without them realising it. 6.) Living Guilds: It's nice to see someone doing something imaginative with something that was once a shallow, underdevloped feature. Levelling up a guild makes perfect sense, standard bearers to tie in Warhammer IP, calendar in-game? Smart. 7.) Customizable Armor: That's the way it should be! And trophies?! Nuff said! 8.) Living Cities: As with living guilds, this is a smart way to keep things interesting and purposeful. Makes perfect sense. Way to foster pride at your glorious capital or hatred as your opponents burn down your hard-earned lvl 5 city. Revenge! To arms! will actually mean something to you. 9.) Combat Oriented: I like how healers and casters are encouraged to join in the fray and melee a bit to experience full benefits of their abilities. This will bring a new face to the healers of MMOs. 10.) Warhammer IP: A bit off-topic in a way, but I've always loved warhammer since i played it when I was young. Getting older, I always thought that it would make an awesome MMO. Glad to see someone had the same idea. I can't wait to play in a fantastic fantasy world dripping with awe and glory! Theres my 10. And I really can't express how excited I am about my #1: unique classes. This is never-before done, and if they pulled it off right, most likely something every MMO will attempt to do. Balancing will be a massive issue, but the level of realism and unpredictability will be awesome.

The focus on PvP and dynamic game world is what caught my eye about this game. I love how you'll actually have something to fight for, rather than just fighting for the hell of it.

Now personally I agree with all of these.
Comming from blizzard games my whole life I can honestly say that mythic has literally blown me away with possibilities alone. The game looks amazing. I too have played the tabletop game for a while and am excited to read what backstory and etc. they give to us in this game. The dwarf ironbreaker excites me to no end. Being a dwarf player to begin with and just getting to that stage of awesome plate strapped stout wall makes drool form. |
