Mark Jacobs on Release Date Rumors

Well MBJ has finally stepped in at Warhammer Vault to comment on all the speculation going on around the recent interview with Paul and other rumors springing up. Mr Jacobs sets the record straight:

Folks,

LOL. No, we're not finished, wish we were. We've still got a lot of work and testing left to do before we're ready to ship. One of the things that a lot of the writers lately have been saying is that they are rather surprised at how polished and deep the game feels and how, in comparison to some other MMORPGs at launch, how stable and playable the game is already. I think that's what Paul might have been referring to, if that quote was accurate, as he knows full well that we really couldn't ship the game today. Believe me, if I thought the game was ready to go out the door now I would be the first one to scream "Ship it" at the top of my lungs, take the studio out for a nice celebration and then prepare for the always interesting launch day.

As to when we are going to ship, well, we're still on target for our release date.

As for the "whole Paul thing":

Folks,

FYI, just spoke to Paul and, as expected, Paul was not only misquoted but the interview does not reflect what Paul said to this guy nor the context in which Paul's answers were delivered. Here's a great example, Paul was asked directly by the writer, "If EA put a gun to your head, could you ship it today?" Paul's response was "If we had to, yes" which is the answer that any developer would give to that question and as the history of MMORPGs have shown, including DAoC shipping when it did because we almost out of money, when you have to ship, you ship. So, "If we had to, yes" became "WAR is finished, could ship today."

Sadly, this stuff happens all the time.

is nobody else getting a bit put off about this game due to lack of information about release dates etc, and now that the specs are out and most people will have to upgrade their machines, im starting to have doubts about the game

I would like to see the VN Boards fix their dev tracker. Mbj now tends to mainly post there but their dev tracker isn't up-to-date. The only way to actually find his posts is by checking every thread to see if he has responded.

No, not at all. And I doubt that most people will have to upgrade their machines. The requirements aren't that high, unless you have been playing WoW for all this time with onboard graphics.

He nowhere denies it is going to release on the 23rd of September. And I don't think he will even say anything about until the newsletter is out. I can honestly say I am 100 % certain that it will release then based on Gamestop actually posting at what time the server will be up. I can understand being doubtful about a date, but a precise time, not really. There is no reason for Gamestop to guess a time to get people to pre-order, only a date is necessary.

Actually didn't he just basically confirm that they were on target for a Sept. 23 release date?

If you bought a new computer 5 years ago it will run WAR according to those specs...how is that "most people".

He doesn't even mention a date, just saying they are on target for the release date they set for the game. I don't see how that is basically a confirmation of the 23rd. I don't deny that is most likely the date, but he still didn't confirm it, not even a hint.
