The Prevailing Question: Is it Fun?

We can talk about the problems the game has, what is lacking in places, or even what is done well, but I think the question everyone has to ask themselves: Is this game fun?

Because if it is, than the problems it does have seem to not seem so bad. Theres a lot of negative posts here and many of them have very valid concerns, but the question I pose to them is: are you able to have fun even with the problems?

Ive been in Beta for about 2months I think and I can honestly say that I have a blast playing this game. This is the first MMO Ive played where Im not really sure what class to play and that is exciting for me. I've tested most of them and they are all fun in their own way. In other MMOs I would never dream of playing a healer or a caster, but I could see myself playing one in WAR possibly.

To me a game is successful if I enjoy playing it for a extended period of time. Obviously a lot of us havent logged very extensive game time, but I think any of us that have gotten to try out most of the tiers have a pretty good idea of how long that enjoyment can potentially last.

So I am creating a poll and it is basically a yes or no question, no gray areas. Think about you play experience and weigh the pros and cons and see if you really can say you are having fun.

NOTE: I want to add for players just joining preview weekend that even if you get to level 20 you havent even scratched the surface of how fun this game can be. I was playing little chars in tiers 1 and 2 and it was fun, not amazing, but also not downright boring and then they let us test Tier 4 and fun factor for me went through the roof. Since then Ive also been able to play in a city siege and kill the King and that just made things even better. So if youve just joined the PW and want to answer feel free, but realize that the game gets exponentially better as you get higher and higher in Rank.

Also feel free to post comments so it stays near the top.

Yes it is fun. I get that "Just one more quest" feeling that I haven't gotten from an MMO in a long time. Its caused me to lose alot of sleep but I haven't run into any feeling of boredom or grinding at this point (I was in the CE Cb as well as this weekend). I may feel differently at level 40 but for now I am having a blast.

Absolutely.

I was going to swear off MMO's altogether after my last WoW burnout but I can't seem to STOP playing WAR beta. I have no idea what I'll do with my time for the TWO WEEKS between the PW and OB. Probably just hang out here and stare longingly at the album of screenshots I've been taking. Or go to work. Or something.

because you have to take everything into consideration and at the end of the day theres really only two ways to answer it. Either you are having fun or you arent. I think it puts things into perspective. Asked another way: Are you having enough fun that you are able to deal with the few problems that might and probably will exist?

Of all the problems I have experienced I have not run across one that can suck the fun out the whole experience. Constant CTDs did for a time, but that seems to be resolved.

Im always a little worried about when a game goes live or even for big patches because problems always seem to arise that werent there before in some cases they literally ruin the game. Hopefully that doesnt happen.

Questing is really fun for me. I got bored of it in WoW, but because the ones in WAR are so quick and easy to do it makes it fun for me.

I love being able to queue up for a scenario and go and knockout some quests in the area then come back after the scenario and finish em up. Plus PQs make me feel like "Just one more try, maybe Ill win something this time."

Like all the polls its evident the polls thus far the cast majority of the beta community likes the game. You know that that sucks at games and goes on the WoW forums saying like, "OMFG! magez ovrpwnered pew pew pew get rid of blinkz and novaz". We have those on the beta forums too. And they are here on this forum.

Most people who like the game actually play it, and few post long winded reviews on fan sites where they think they can influence things and be important, but in reality they can't.

A can't think of a more perfect thread to quote the great Paul Barnett-

"You talk to people about what’s important they get obsessed on the product. The get obsessed on the frames per second, the colors, the brightness, the usability of the interface. And you go: “It’s none of those things!” That’s just the dressing, that’s the just the stuff that makes you go: “Yes, yes, yes, I see, I see, I see.” What is at the core of it? FUN! Fun, you F#CKERS!"

Ha i love Paul Barnett. He seems so much more involved in developement than other big wigs in other MMOs Ive played. I always feel like the main dudes are just names they tag onto newsletters, but are not accessible at all by the public. Not that Paul is accessible, but he seems to be and that makes him more real I guess heh.

Hmm, seems people are having fun. :P

This is going to be a great game, one of those games you play for a long time.

I have yet to find anything quite as entertaining as sniping Witch Elves and Sorcerers with a bolt thrower from the safety of a High Elf warcamp.

It is ok. I was expecting a more fluid combat system. It seems clunky.

Yes, I think WAR is definitely fun to play. The quests are generally quick and easy to complete, unlike WOW with their "collect X body parts from Y animal" nonsense, the PQ and renown system lets you gain rep to buy items with, and scenarios and RvR let you pvp from the start. I have a day off and originally planned to play WOW all day today, and get some things done, but I found myself unable to tear away from WAR. If I didn't get so many lags and crashes that prevent me from fully enjoying the game, it'd be a great gaming experience. I hope these glitches can be worked out before the launch, because they are really testing my patience.

Thank god my classes start up this Monday so I have something to do =P
At least I'll have NDK to look forward to before WAR's release. (NDK is a anime conv. in Denver 12th to 14th Sept).

EKSA players might be described as living by slogan: see the world, meet interesting people...and kill them. Immersion within the world is important to these players, because they love finding new things to explore--but they also enjoy the thrill of the hunt and finding other players within the world to fight.
